As with all things in life, liking something and being something can be two completely different challenges. I have always loved art and grew up in a family that travelled (I was an army "brat") and lived abroad. Visiting famous European museums, churches, archeological sites and the like shaped my appreciation and love of art.
At the young age of eleven I had the opportunity to take art lessons from an artist named Herr Bill in Germany and knew that I not only loved to look at art, but that it was in my blood to create art. It was my passion from an early age. For years painting, as a "hobby", was what I did to stay connected to the creative side of my soul. That was never enough. After many years in the corporate marketing world, I have succumbed to my passion. Painting has become an integral part of my life again.
God in all his infinite wisdom kept me connected to my passion in many ways through the years. My next door neighbor and mentor while living in Denver was a fabulous fine artist, Louis Escobedo. Watching him paint in the studio year after year inspired me to dream of painting again. Finding my art group in Dallas, led by artist Janice Hamilton, has helped me to see the possibilities in my work. I now paint exclusively in oil on canvas or canvas board.
Below is a short, whimsical walk through my early art life - 12 years old through high school. I smile at the simplicity of my early work and marvel at the unending possibilities that await me on the canvas.
